Non solo si tratta di una professionalità ben preci-sa, ma anche di una delle più comples-se da insegnare e da mettere in pratica con successo; una professionalità One of the papers delivered at a recent conference of HCI (human-computer interaction) educators held in Limerick in the March of this year raised a question that, apart from the content of the paper itself, clearly represents the frame of mind of most traditionally-minded HCI educators: " HCI education: We are failing-why? " In precise terms, starting with the sensational cases of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the voting on the country to host the 2012 Olympic Games, Edwards, Wright and Petrie point out the failure to transfer the teachings of traditional HCI from the teachers to the students, the future designers of HCI devices, not least because the teachings of this discipline are considered overly simple and deri-vable from common sense. What does this mean? Simply that for many, interaction design is not to be regarded as a discipline or a profession. Nothing could be more mistaken. It is not only a very precise professional skill but also one of the most complex to teach and to put successfully into practice, a craft that by now requires methodological approaches and knowledge stretching far beyond

Daniels, Porteny and Urrutia et al make a good case for the idea that that public decisions ought to be made not only “in the light of” evidence but also “on the basis of” budget impact, financial protection and equity. Health technology assessment (HTA) should, they say, be accordingly expanded to consider matters additional to safety and cost-effectiveness. They also complain that most HTA re...
